Although I enjoy books that focus on the music in depth, the amount of detail provided about individual tours is exhausting. The author's opinions also become overbearing at times.

Макайвер не скрывает своего позитивного отношения к первым трем дискам группы: «Kill 'Em All» , «Ride the Lightning» и «Master of Puppets». (Deep Purple «Concerto for Group and Orchestra»). Anger».

This is a very thorough telling of the ups and downs of Metallica's long career, starting with the band's formation in the early 80s, and following them through their four classic albums (Kill Em All, Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All), their massive breakthrough with the "Black Album," the thoroughly disappointing Load/Reload and St. Anger albums, and their respectable comeback with Death Magnetic. A nearly 400 page book is probably a bit much even for real fans, and McIver's track-by-track breakdown of their every album and the listing of nearly every concert location becomes terribly tiring, but there's plenty of drama to keep the story very entertaining - the early firing of Dave Mustaine, the death of Cliff Burton, the Napster battle, and the near implosion of the band documented in the Some Kind of Monster movie. Particularly enjoyable was the telling of the band's early years, and the early days of metal in general. While I wouldn't say Metallica remain one of my favorite bands, I have listened to them off and on for nearly 25 years. I generally share author Joel McIver's assessment that they were great up until the Black Album signaled the start of their downfall, and that the the Load albums were downright terrible, but I've still got a soft spot for Metallica. I last saw them live in 2008 and for a bunch of middle-aged millionaires they can still kick some serious ass. Reading their story in such great detail made for a guilty pleasure and an easy, enjoyable summer read.

The biography of the band starts off well, with detailed descriptions about how the band began and the heavy metal scene at the time. McIver is very knowledgable about the scene and has provided excellent insights from some of the most respected musicians in the industry. I do believe that this is a must read for Metallica fans, however-McIver has brought too many of his own opinions of the bands work into what he calls 'The Truth About Metallica'. He provides harsh criticisms about the later works of the bands-i.e. Loads, St Anger- which dampens the mood of the read. To be honest I could not even finish the book as the criticisms became overwhelming and the book becomes more of a review than a biography. McIver is a long time Metallica fan who is bitter about the direction they have taken with their music. Very disapointing.

Metallica szybko odniosła sukces, lecz nie można powiedzieć, by muzyków ominęły nieszczęścia i skandale.

Joel McIver goes in great depth, mostly from eyewitness accounts, about the origination of Metallica. The chapters are broken down into yearly segments that discuss in great lengths milestones the band has made throughout their career. The book is filled with eyewitness accounts mostly from everyone that was there at the beginning. The book is also very opinionated. Joel McIver drives home what HE thinks about some of Metallica's milestones (as you'll see when you get the the LOAD and RELOAD era), and he states these opinions as if they are facts, which they aren't, which is why this book is rated 3 stars from me. However, I recommend it to any Metallica fan, because there is material in this book that isn't found in any other Metallica book. Enjoy.

Rzetelna, unikająca tanich chwytów i niepotrzebnego popadania w kontrowersję biografia zespołu.

An in-depth overview of the Four Horsemen's career, And Justice For All: The Truth About Metallica is a must have for the hardcore fan. Spanning from the early, inexperienced years to the post-St. Anger stage of reconciliation, this book tells the thrilling tale of the leaders in the thrash metal movement. Joel McIver not only documents every last detail of Metallica's many tours and experiences, but also gives a fair record of the origins of thrash metal in 1980's LA and SF. Stocked with plenty of interviews, this book does a phenomenal job of capturing all of the kickassery of Metallica and transforming it into words.

Some redundant information at points. I don't need to know EVERY city they toured on EACH tour. However some really great stuff as well. Music is very important to me and Metallica along with Iron Maiden shaped who I am today in many ways if not most obvious my "I'll do what I want" attitude which has lost it's edge with age...as has Metallica.Perspectives from peers in the metal industry was fresh. Still hate the way Newsted left and was treated but everyone has since grown up and made amends including Mustaine. Must read for any aging Metalhead like myself.

Can't get enough of reading about Metallica! I have found British music historians to be some of the most devoted and thorough of any.Joel McIver does not disappoint! In addition to supplying the juicy details of the backstory of "the monster", we are treated to a dissection of each and every Metallica output. This will be a learning experience for the casual fan, and a thought-provoker for the Metalli-maniac.My only complaint is that the book ends before "Some Kind of Monster" wraps filming. I would have loved an addendum about the years following "Monster".

So.... I'm going to start a band. A surprisingly captivating read that took me from their humble beginnings, through their rise, to the epitome of their thrash metal days and the following decade of questionable releases. Some very honest and objective tellings about the Napster case, the horrible St Anger tin metal trash can snare drum album and the ongoing elephants in the room, Cliff Burton's death and Dave Mustaine's unspoken hostility. Quite nostalgic reading and good history lesson considering ReLoad was really my first introduction

This book is amazing. Obviously, it's about Metallica and the history of Metallica. It states everything from when the band members were growing up, to present day Metallica. I recommend reading this book if you're a huge Metallica fan, but if you hate Metallica, don't read it. On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 10.

A great book with a lot of details, specially from the early days, which is by far the most interesting part of the book. My favourite line of the book is from Lemmy: "Travel is the only real education".

A must read for all Metallica fans.Tells the story of the most important Metal band ever from the very start to, in my edition, the release of the Some Kind Of Monster DVD.There may be updated versions but it is well worth a read as it stands.Eet Fuk

Like the band, you'll like this book. I learnt a lot I didn't know, although I did learn quickly that I didn't always agree with the author's own opinions which intersperse the book throughout. This book is now outdated as the band have released more stuff, but still lightweight enjoyable stuff.

I totally get the passion of the author and respect his decision to critizice the band on their weakest moments, but his and my positions of what should be considered as those weakest moments are 90 % different.

A look inside the story of Metallica. Gets inside the heads of the band, their relationships. The author is not afraid to criticize the band's weaker work. Fair enough.
