Eena, The Return of a Queen Reviews
Eena, the young queen of Harrowbeth, is finally approaching the dying world she left as a child. Standing in her way is the evil Gemdorin and his plot to take over the universe, some angry giant Viiduns, and a couple immortal beings. And if that wasn't enough to throw her off her mallawum game, she also learns that her parents promised her in marriage to Captain Derian, who she can't get along with if she tried. There are some real gems in this sequel, one of which is the super creative game of mallawum. I adored the growing relationship between Eena and Derian and the traditions of the Harrowbethians. Their time spent in the gardens are some of my absolute favorite moments. I love how strong Eena is in fighting for what she believes in; it's really fun to see her grow as a character even though she still makes mistakes like a teenager. There is a host of really strong characters added to the mix as well.4.5 stars, really, if I could give it that. Everyone needs to pick up this series, so Richelle can get the next one out!!
This book was hard to put down, but unfortunately, the past few months have been almost too busy to read much. This second book has more action and more romance. I am eager to read what comes next for Eena and her friends.
This second book in the Harrowbethian Saga includes many exciting, suspenseful, and romantic scenes. Book one introduced the intimidating captain, Kahm Derian, as well as his Viidun friend, Shanks. Book two colors in their personalities. We get to meet Shanks crew―three giant, bearish, combative figures with a unique attitude towards life and death. It's hard to choose a favorite chapter in this book (let alone a favorite book in the saga). Learning the rules and regulations to the most popular sport in Harrowbeth―Mallawum Ball―was a lot of fun. I smiled when Eena's competitive nature erupted during the first game she was exposed to. The rivalry that develops between the Viidun captain, Shanks, and Queen Eena is shocking but compelling. It is a surprise to discover a deeply-intertwined past for the three main characters―Eena, Derian, and Ian―accounting for the antagonistic interactions between the men. I love how the dragons become more essential to the story, and how they receive names and ancestry while their purpose begins to slowly unravel. But if I had to choose, I would say my personal favorite part of this book was getting to know Kahm Derian in a whole new light. It reveals another side to the man that endears him to Eena and quite possibly to readers. This story will have you day-dreaming about Eena's adventures whenever you haven't the time to be reading about them!
I have finished Eena the Return of a Queen. It's full of adventure, suspense, intrigue, and surprises lurking. It is about a teenager who is thrown into an adult world. It's a little science fiction, a little fantasy and love, and lots of characters.
