But then a funny little monster appeared and ate Billy right up! Lumie knows it's not really a good thing to let a monster eat your brother, but she can't help but notice that things are, in fact, much nicer now that he's gone. can't really explain what makes me like this one... it's quirky, bizzare, funny... but not so much that I can really say it will stand out. Neither can I say that the drawings are exceptional. If anything I'd even say that the heroine character is a bit annoying in that she just suffers all the bullying that's done to her. I like the fact that the scarry monster's lost for actions and is a bit helpless against the little girl despite its mean-ness & fierce-ness to others.... But still I can't really say why I enjoyed it so much while flipping through it. I just did.

This was handed to me while I was hanging around waiting to decorate a Christmas tree with the vague advice that it would help me understand what Christmas was all about. I . . . am not sure it did that. But I did like the art.

this wouldnt be my first choice in grabbing a book to read to a young kid before bed, however i did absolutely love it. the art is gorgeous and the story is fun. a must read for those who like the not-so-much-for-children, children's stories.

This was a fun Dirge story! It loses focus here & there, as he tends to do, but in ways I always find entertaining. Good for any one with a troublesome sibling &/or an appreciation for monsters!

The writing style in this book was funny to me, but I'm not sure that most kids would understand some of the jokes so it's like an Easter Egg for the adult reader. I think that twenty or so odd years from now some of the pop-culture references will no longer be valid. The size and style of the font was difficult for me to read. It was a narrow, some what twisty serif font. I would have liked it to be larger. The illustrations were fun. I'm not sure if the inked illustrations on the narrative pages were done by the same guy as the painted ones. I was trying to figure that out. The ending was a little ambiguous. I wasn't sure if the girl had been eaten herself and was replaced with cardboard or if she was using a cardboard hand to handle the monster, like how trainers test dogs for food aggression with fake limbs.

Wonderful work! The artwork is phenomenal and the story is great fun to read. The only reasons for not giving it five stars are a few glaring errors that really should have been caught by an editor; as a book I'm excited about reading with my kid, I'm not looking forward to having to deal with them.

This is an amusing little dark "children's book" for adults. Those who grew up with siblings should be able to relate to it. Of course, Billy is a nightmare of a brother. There is always one like him in the neighborhood, and you always feel bad for his siblings. Luckily, Lumie has a little help taking care of her brother problem.

Great, dark little tale. Probably longer than necessary, however.

While I love anything that takes the piss on Christmas, this sadly was not the best attempt I've come across. Roman, you tried, but alas, you've fallen a bit short. Better luck next time.

This book was formatted like a children's book, but took too long to read! I did like it, though... it was entertaining in a dark, sadistic way.
