Lawrence Heaney is a wildlife biologist who has done extensive field work in the forests of the Philippines. He is perhaps the world's foremost expert in Philippine mammals. He writes so plainly and effortlessly that anyone--even those like me with no formal training in biology--can easily grasp the issues that he writes about. He eschews scientific and technical jargon. School children in the Philippines should be made to read about our fascinating flora and fauna before the rampant deforestation and habitat destruction drives these species to extinction.
