the price of faith Reviews
Oh Desperate Love... It's in the air. And in Michelle Hazen's final and incredibly satisfying installment of her trilogy, not only love, but also blood and hearts (the very literal kind) because this is TVD.Plots twists galore! Smutty goodness! Laugh-out-Loud banter! New Big Bads and false prophecies and grand revelations and magic! Heads roll in an action-packed battle! But what really shines here, what makes me smile and wish Ms. Hazen were sitting in TVD Writers' Room, is how beautifully and believably she writes the creation of a family. Cobbled together from different supernatural creatures (and the token human), they banter and tease and glare and fight, but like the best ensembles, their love for each other is overwhelming. It overpowers their jealousy and petty arguments and saves the day.Not goopy or sappy, this is Happily Ever After at its finest. (Although she wrote that too, and you should totally go and read it.) I was left sighing with contentment.
Actually really good for what was basically fan fic. Published under Kindle Worlds. Characters were spot on and plots better than disappointing TV lines.
I think if maybe there was anything to say about this work of art it would be...flabbergasting. No, that's not good enough. Heartbreaking? Doesn't encompass enough. Shocking? Cliché. Exciting? Definitely, but not for the reasons you'd expect. The truth is, there is no way to sum up this book. How do you possibly condense the emotional overture of this novel, and write it into a measly paragraph? You don't. You don't even dare trying. The third installment of this series is everything I wanted, I needed, I hoped for and everything that I couldn't have even fathomed to ask for. The plot has been building into a fantastic crescendo, and Hazen really blows it out of the water when it all comes to a head. Nothing is spared: the attention to detail, vivid imagery, the sounds... She pushes and shapes her world until the senses are all on overload and it hurts so good. And that's to say nothing of the rollercoaster of the two love stories playing out while this is all happening.Never have I seen love written so well. It is reality embedded in black and white, in tiny little letters that give us hope of what it all could really be, and sometimes, glad that it's not. Sacrifice, choice, confusion, fear, devotion and above all, desperation. Hazen knows it, Hazen gets it and I feel so incredibly blessed that she shared her vast knowledge of all things beautiful and just a little sour. Because that's the truth, just as she tells us, "Love isn't patient or kind. It's desperate."Desperate Love... I love you, desperately.
The whole Desperate Love Trilogy is a must-buy for fans of The Vampire Diaries TV show. I love Michelle Hazen's alternate take on Season 4. She writes well, has a very good grasp of the characters, and I have never been disappointed in any of her books. She maintains an exciting pace, carefully balancing plot and character development, and I enjoy the mix of action, humor, drama, and romance. She allows the characters so much emotional expression, and it feels so natural, never forced. I can totally lose myself in these books.
