Heart and Soul Reviews
Heart and Soul was a very interesting and unique book. It wasn't told from a certain persons perspective but told from an "everywomen's" point of view. I thought this approach really added to the story because it was about African Americans and their stories before and during the Civil Rights Movement. This book was full of hope, inspiration and courage. All the stories were historical fiction, so the characters may not be real but the events all were. I also thought this book was interesting because it was told in picture book format but was 108 pages long. I had never really read a book like this and I really enjoyed it. It would be great to bring to a more mature classroom because some of the concepts are hard to understand from the Civil RIghts but this would a great way to teach them. This book is interesting and informative and would be great for the classroom when learning about this time. It makes the people in the stories look courages and hopeful and brings a different perspective to these times.
I read Sally Mandel novels many years ago, and recently came across Heart and Soul. I loved the talented and flawed characters in this novel. Mandel has a quick wit that she weaves into serious events. So as I was fretting over the problems the character faced, I was caught offguard with the humor. I enjoy characters that can laugh and see the humor in their own imperfections. Bess was certainly one of those characters.
Perhaps the book had a lot of personal appeal for me because as a young girl I used to dream of becoming a concert pianist. Unlike Bess Stallone in the book, I didn't have to drive to make music part of my soul
In this book, I got to learn about the world of professional piano playing. There was a bit of girl from the wrong side of the tracks and info about mental illness. The structure of the book was looking back over her life was interesting.
well , that was a total disaster , not my type , not my type ! a complete waste of time !
J'ai lu et relu "La vie est trop courte" du même auteur, mais ce bouquin ne lui arrive pas à la cheville et la fin est un peu déprimante.
Not the best book I have read...kind of boring...wouldn't waste your time on it.
