Enjoyed this one. Older hero. Lord above ... "older" hero is still younger than me. Ah well, there are not many romance books out there with more mature characters so I will just have to take what I get.Carrie Halligan never regretted the choice she made sixteen years ago to raise her son Jack by herself in Willow Bay, Michigan. A successful photographer by day, at night Carrie satisfies her musical passions by playing piano at a hotel bar, maintaining a balance that works for her and Jack. Walking away from Maestro Liam Reilly without telling him she was pregnant with his child may have been the hardest thing she’d ever done, but it was definitely the right thing.Liam Reilly shows up in Carrie's town. They haven't seen each other in 16 years. The attraction is still there. But Carrie had kept a secret from Liam. Would he be forgiving and could they move past it?His face was older. The young eager musician had been replaced by a mature, balanced, and if possible, sexier version of the man she remembered.I will definitely check out more books by this author.I don't hide my age on here. I will be 50 in December. A lot of my friends here are younger. I don't have many friends my age or older. I do have a few but the majority are younger than me. I remember in my 20s and even 30s I used to think folks that were over 40 were fecking ancient.Look away now if you don't want a TMI moment.(view spoiler)[OK, so Himself did the grocery shopping today as I was busy with laundry and house cleaning. He is home about 2 hours and he says to me "Get your ass upstairs," I said "Why?" He said, "I have a bottle of champagne with your name on it up in the bedroom." "OK." I said ... Yes, I am easy. So the kids are away - what's a gal to do when offered some afternoon nookie. Yes Please. LOL. Sorry. So you young ones, us older folks still have it in us!!!THEN HE SAID .... "You've a fine arse on you missus". For fecks sake Jamie says that to Claire all the time in Outlander. He made my day!! I heard this author interviewed on the StoryWonk podcast (hosted by Lani Diane Rich, whose books I love), and immediately got both her books in this series. Nan Reinhardt has one book (Rule Number One) published the traditional way, but was told repeatedly that the heroine of this book (who is 40) was "too old". Romance readers don't want to read about women over a certain age. But Nan didn't believe that, because Baby Boomers (born 1945 to 1964, so between the ages of 49 and 62) do the vast majority of the spending in the current economy, and thus do most of the buying of books that goes on in bookstores of all kinds. Most romance readers are over forty. Most romance heroines are between 22 and 35. Nan didn't want to make her heroine younger, because Nan herself is sixty. She isn't younger. She doesn't know what it's like to be twenty-five, or even thirty-five, anymore. So she stuck to her guns, and self-published. This is a good "secret baby" story. I normally hate secret babies, but this secret baby is a fifteen year old boy, so there's a whole new dimension to the father-son relationship, once it comes out. The romantic relationship between Carrie and Liam is lovely, but it felt rushed in places, and I think the book would have been equally good if it had taken a little more time with that part of things. And that would have allowed a little more time to see the relationship between Liam and Jack develop. I would have liked more of this book.

You'll hear the music! It's second chance time for Carrie and Liam in this delightful story fresh from Willow Bay, Michigan. The setting (and the music) come alive as you find yourself rooting for this couple to get together.

Once More From the TopThis was a second chance for two who parted almost sixteen years ago. She left him so that he could go one to become a great concert conductor, a maestro. She went and has his son. Now they are in the same town. Will he find out about his child? Will he ever forgive her? Why did she leave? There was enough angst to keep me reading. Not anger from him. They both have secrets that the other will find out. The story line was about music symphony orchestra style. Well done. I could hear the music being played. Am looking forward to the next book out.

Please leave comments on my 4 1/2 sweet pea review at http://mrsconditreadsbooks.com/index....“Hey, if you want sacred, don’t whisper indecent proposals to my mother right in front of me.”I know I’m going to love this series, The Woman of Willow Bay, just from reading the first book. Nan Reinhardt builds a location for her story that is a place I would love to live without making it so ideal it doesn’t seem real.On the one hand it’s the well-known secret pregnancy from an instance of unprotected sex trope but because it has gone undetected for 16 years and the “baby” is now a teenager, there is a new and interesting spin on the story. As soon as the baby daddy comes to town it is impossible to overlook the similarities of father and son, from their ginger hair to their genius-level musical talents. When Carrie decides to introduce her son to his father she is too late. He’s already figured it out for himself. The last section of the book is a lot of waffling back and forth about where Carrie and Liam will live, and all the complications that their relationship brings up. Will one of them have to sacrifice a beloved career? How will Jack take the news? Is there a compromise that everyone can live with? Ms Reinholdt is very creative with her solutions and produces an ending that is highly satisfactory. Good book. Good series.

From beginning to end Once More From the Top is about beautiful music, mature lovers and finding ways to communicate, compromise and share the joys of music, love and the talent of each member of the family. Love stories about mature couples are rare and finding one that is fun, in a beautiful setting next to Lake Michigan made for a delightful story.Carrie and Liam find the feelings and love they shared sixteen years ago is still strong and they find a second chance with the blessings of their son Jack, given in typical teenage fashion. The characters were true to their age with a good presentation of appropriate language and attitude to keep the story moving and interesting as it played out Once More From the Top.

I liked the premise which was different, solid and realistic. My problem was with the main character, Carrie. One can completely understand her circumstances and her fears as a young woman who is faced with an unexpected pregnancy without knowing exactly where she stands with the father of the baby. How she reacted once she was reunited with the father and the "love of her life" was just annoying. Her actions and thoughts left her seeming selfish and insecure and makes the reader (at least this reader) annoyed instead of being compassionate towards her. I would have preferred that the story centered more around the outside conflict of introducing the son to his long lost father instead of spending so much time on Carrie's hangups.

There's a lot to this book, including a jerk of a manager and a great cast of secondary characters including son Jack, but overall I found this book really fun to read. I absolutely adore music, having played many instruments in my life, so I was happy to see a conductor as a hero in this book. Once More From the Top is a very well-written book with a story line that kept me turning the pages. It's a sweet story of two people, a pianist and conductor, who fell in love 16 years before, and consummated their love before misunderstandings kept them apart. Years later, when they find each other again, secrets are revealed, old and new feelings are explored, and the question of whether they can "take it from the top" must be answered. This may sound like a typical plot, but it is not. The author is a wonderful writer, and she takes us on a romantic and fulfilling journey.

This is my first novel by Nan Reinhardt, and it revolves around a subject I knew little about - classical musicians. I found it fascinating to see the world of a symphony conductor, and a woman who's son is a very gifted musician. The characters drew me into the story, and the plot was well developed.I read the digital version, and there were a couple of formatting flaws, but not enough to detract from the story.

This is a very well written contemporary romance. It pulled me in and held my interest right away. H/h are in their 40s which is a nice change. Sex scenes are steamy. My only criticism is that the central conflict seemed to be too easily resolved in my opinion, considering how terrible the h's actions were.

Nan Reinhardt knows how to write a romantic novel, no doubt. What I enjoyed about this book was the way the story flowed and unfolded. By the end of chapter three, I was anticipating every next move. Well-developed and realistic characters, plenty of sex (hey, it's a romance), and a satisfying, happy ending all make "Once More from the Top" a must-read.

This is a tough review for me. I love that the couple is older and the story line is interesting and believable. But I felt it was long and drawn out. :(
