Reviewed for herding cats & burning soup.Amazon: http://amzn.to/1XDTBe7I have been loving on this trilogy something fierce. Fun, sexy, make you smile goodness. And I was really excited about diving into Sweet Ride and spending time with Jag as he tries to convince a girl he knew in high school and thought of as the one who got away to spend a week with him on his Dude Ranch to see if they have what it takes for something more.I liked Alix and Jag. The little bit of time they knew each other in high school and the spark between them. They had a fun bit of teasing between them and some very hot moments once she settled down at the ranch and decided to explore some erotic fantasies with him. Alright. So this was the first one that felt like what it was. A quickie novella. While the other two reads in the series were short and fast as well they left me feeling satisfied and giddy for the next book and getting to spend more time in this world. Sweet Ride though just didn't feel complete. It didn't give me that excited pull or satisfied feeling in the end. It needed...more of something. More pages, words, time spent between them. There were a lot of elements mentioned during the novella--fantasies, bits of their personal lives, a weird attack that felt out of place. The problem was that none of it felt fully explored. It was just a hit on it then moving on to the next thing. It had the heat going and nice characters but I never really felt drawn or connected to them like I have others in the series. It wasn't a bad read exactly. It's one that works if you've got a crazy intense day on your hands and you need an hours escape (maybe not even that long) for some hot and heavy with a side of sweet but it's not one I'd say is really memorable or entirely satisfying. I closed the book with the thought of 'okay, moving on, what's next on the reading list'.

ARC provided by publisher in exchange for an honest reviewSweet Ride by Cathryn Fox is the third and final installment to the Playing For Keeps Series. In the first two books, we learned that Coop and Mac were able to claim their women and now it's finally time for Curtis Jagger to get his chance at love. Private investigator, Jag grew up on the wrong sides of the track and so he had to work really hard to get to where he is today. As he looked back on his life, he is ready to settle down and the one woman he can't seem to get out of his mind is Alix Harris. Alix was the gorgeous, sweet and popular girl in high school. She didn't make Jag feel any different because she was rich and he was not. And so when an opportunity presented itself for him to invite her to the ranch that he co-owns with his buddies, he will stop at nothing in showing her that he is the only one who really knows her.Alix has always lived a life of expectations. She was expected to get married, help her father's political career, and be the doting supportive fiancee. But when she discovers her fiance has been cheating on her and got another woman knocked up, Alix decides to take a leap of faith on a secretive invitation to a dude's ranch and upon her arrival, she see's Jag. For one week, Jag ask of Alix to give him a shot and within that week, he was able to show her everything she was missing in her life. He was able to show her that he is the only one who truly knows Alix physically, emotionally, and sexually. Is one week enough for Alix to leave her city life behind and trade in her heels for some cowboy boots?I really enjoyed reading Sweet Ride. This book was sexy, fun, playful and yet touching. I love that Coop, Mac, and Jag were able to get their HEA's with the women of their dreams. I especially loved the perfect sweet ending for Jag and Alix. And so if you are looking for a book, that reminds us all that its never too late for second chances and taking risks at love is worth the gamble then I would suggest you to read the Playing For Keeps Series. Curtis "Jag" Jagger is a private investigator during the week, and spends his weekends the cowboy way working on his dude ranch that he co-owns with his buddies. While his charm with the ladies has proved to be quite successful, he still feels like his love life is lacking, and in need of something a little more permanent. So when his friends devise a plan to rekindle relationships with their lost loves he decides to join them and invite Alix Harris. She was the most popular girl in school, and the one he has admired from afar for far too long...Alix Harris has lived a sheltered life, and been under her parents thumb for the majority of her adult life. Her parents expectations are high, and she has never really had the freedom to make her own decisions, even when it comes to who she should marry. Her parents have picked the "perfect" mate for her, and they believe him to be a wonderful addition to their family, only problem is he has eyes for more than one woman. After Alix discovers that her fiance has been cheating on her she dumps him and decides to swear off men completely... that is until she receives an invite for a week long getaway from a very tempting cowboy...This series has been quite the literary treat for me, the story lines were very inventive, exceptionally written, and wickedly satisfying!! Ms. Fox knows her cowboys and has created three very charming cowboys that are sure to steal your heart, and leave you blushing a time or two! Definitely a refreshing and entertaining approach to second chance romance, HIGHLY recommend you add them to the top of your reading list! Following on from the previous books in the series, Slow Ride, and Wild Ride, Coop, Jag and Mac had invited the three girls from their past, that they felt they had unfinished business with. Coop and Julia were explored first, then Mac and Jess, and now Jag and Alix have their opportunity in Sweet Ride.Alix Harris was a lofty socialite, and way out of Curtis Jagger’s league. She was, however, always kind and engaging to him, when she had cause to at their high school, and that had had Jag burning a candle for her ever since.Having just had her world turned upside down, she accepts the out of the blue invitation, and takes it as an opportunity to relax away from the high profile life she leads.Jag was a PI, but found himself lamenting more about settling down on the ranch he had invested in with Coop and Mac. Jag had an idea Alix wasn’t all she seemed, and that there was a fancy free girl waiting to bust out of Alix’s body, given the opportunity. This series has been a whistle stop tour through each of the Ranch owners stories. They have all been sufficiently different, but have lacked the depth required to engage me either to the storyline or the characters, with this one being the least absorbing. 3 Sweet & Sexy Stars! Source: eARC for Honest Review Courtesy of EntangledIt has been forever since I read a Cathryn Fox book, so when given the opportunity I jumped on it. Yes, this novella is part of a series but any of them can be read as a standalone.  I started with this one and am now working my way through them.  You can't go wrong with second chances with hunky cowboys.  This was a sexy, short, sweet read. Curtis 'Jag' Jagger and his friends have always wondered about what if with their past crushes or loves.  So why not find them and bring them to the ranch to live out one week of fantasies.  Each girl gets an invitation and anything can go once they arrive at the ranch.  For Jag, he has always had a thing for Alix Harris.  Once he finds out that she's engaged he almost ends the pursuit.  But once he realizes that the relationship is pretty toxic, he reaches out since you never know unless you try. After receiving the invite Alix, wasn't sure if she was going to go, but once her life gets thrown in her face she runs to the ranch to escape.  At first she tries to stay away but she can't turn down Jag for long, as most would have that problem.  He's sweet, understanding, supportive, loyal, caring, and super sexy.  Once Alix gives in, she goes all the way . . . until the dreaded martyr moment. Thankfully Jag quickly puts an end to that nonsense and they give in to their potential HEA.  Since it was a novella, it didn't have a huge amount of full substance but it had enough to feel their connection and root for them.  It was sexy, sweet and quick. What a great combination.  It was also a reminder for me to read more from Cathryn Fox.

Okay, so I’ve heard amazing things about the Playing for Keeps series and thought I would give it a go with the third book in the series, Sweet Ride. I may have made a slight mistake by reading this book first. It’s not because I started so late into the series because this book totally works as a standalone, it’s just that this book had me scratching my head and wondering where the rest of the story was. Here’s what’s going on. Jag had a crush on Alix in school but he was from the wrong side of the tracks so she, even though there was an attraction between them, didn’t give him the time of day. Hoping to get a chance with ‘the one who got away’, Jag invites Alix to spend the week and his ranch where they get down and very dirty. So, I loved Alix and Jag as a couple—their history, their banter, their chemistry, the all-around good time they had together. When she first arrived at the ranch, she’s dealing with her cheating ex-fiancé and she’s still in ‘good-girl’ mode, so it was nice to finally see Alix come out of her shell, let her hair down, and dive into some naughtiness with Jag. I was really enjoying the week that Alix and Jag shared then the next thing I know I’m at the end of the book. I also had a slight problem with the whole debacle with Alix’s ex. It was just odd and a bit out of place, it was almost as though the author needed a last minute conflict so she threw in this odd ex encounter.Sweet Ride is a novella and, sadly, it fell into that too-short trap some novellas are known for. Nothing was truly fully explored and it was such a pity because this book could have been a really grand read but it just left me wanting so much more. Overall, This wasn’t a horrible book, and I did enjoy it. I liked the plot and I thoroughly enjoyed Alix and Jag as a couple, and the epilogue was so sweet but blimey, this was just way too short. It felt like I was only getting half of the story, a teaser of how good something could be if only it would have been developed more. It was a fun quick little read but, dang it, I wanted more.

This is the third story in a series of standalones featuring three high school friends and their bid to have a second chance with girls they had a crush on as teenagers. They've got a ranch together, and have issued invitations to the three women to come for a week of fun, and in hopes of finding out whether the sparks are still there. This particular story is about Jag, a geek in high school and Alix, a society girl, who, while she may have been polite to Jag at school, never really saw him as boyfriend material (nor would her family have accepted it). But while she's still been under her family's thumb as the daughter of the mayor, finding her fiance cheating on her changed everything and she's accepted the invitation for the week away, hardly recognizing the handsome studly cowboy she sees now. Jag is determined to give Alix whatever she needs, whether it's friendship or more and Alix realizes that finally having someone accept her for who she is, is what she's been missing in her life. There are some sexy scenes between them, and when their one week is up, Alix is ready to commit to more, and so is Jag. It was a quick, sexy read and an enjoyable end to the trio of stories. 4 stars. 4 starJag, Tyler, and Coop decide to send invites out to the one that got away. Jag’s private Investigative Company will track down the girls and they will come up with plans to win the girls over. What could go wrong? Each woman gets an anonymous invite to working dude ranch for a week of R&R. Will the woman even show up?If you have not read the below I would recommend reading these books(s) also as they are part of this series:Slow Ride (Playing for Keeps, #1)Wild Ride (Playing for Keeps, #2)This is Alix and Curtis (Jagger)’s short story. Jag sends an invite to Alix. Alix has always done things her family asks her to but after being betrayed she decides to accept the invite. Now she is getting off a plane to a surprise. Jag is hot and was from the wrong side of town when they were younger. Her family would not have even allowed them to be friends. Can she really spend the week with him? What is she falls for him? Will she have to let him go? Or once the weeks over are they over? Can she really have a fling and not fall for Jag? Can Jag win over the one that got away?I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I recommend this book.

I received an ARC of this book form the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.I have read every book in this series, and I enjoyed all of them. I've been waiting to read and review this installment since the moment I got it. I'd have to say that the second book is probably my favorite out of the three, but that doesn't mean that this book and the first one isn't good because they are. Right now, Cathryn Fox is one of those authors I trust to give me a good time when I am looking for a sexy and romantic contemporary romance novel that's also a light and fast read.Sweet Ride has a heroine who's always been on the good side, until she spends time with the hero who shows her how to embracewho she really is inside and to accept that she deserves to get the things she secretly desires. I wish that a lot of the issues in this book were explored deeper and resolved more clearly. Anyway, regardless pf my small complaints, I still enjoyed the hell out of this book. I enjoyed the entire series, actually. Sweet Ride is a good book that you can read on its own, but I suggest you read the other two as well. You definitely won't regret it.

SWEET RIDE - 4 STARS!I loved this book. This series is definitely a top for me in the novella department. I am digging short series that gives a beautiful romance full of steam and passion. This author definitely has become a new watch out for one as this is my first books by her but definitely not my last.I loved this book. It was sexy, sweet, fun, passionate, and had an amazing story that spoke to my heart. This book captivated me from the first page and before I realized it, I devoured this entire series. While these books are shorter in length, they pack a serious punch with tons of heat. This is Jag and Alix's story. All it takes is one week to completely wreck your life, changing it forever. And a second chance to prove that a happy ending is in the cards for Jag and Alix. Jag will make you melt and swoon. Alix is a girl who will make you smile and root for along the way.I recommend this book.Blog Tour---> http://reneeentress.blogspot.com/2015...

Actual rating 2.5 out of 5 starsOriginally posted on my blog: Tangled Up In BooksI received a copy of this book, from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating.I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to express my feelings for this book and this series. On the one hand I loved it and couldn't wait to find out what happened to each couple, but on the other the books are each so dang short, novella length, that everything happens at warp speed and there's really not enough time for these stories to evolve and give you that wow factor we're all looking for. Sure they kept my attention enough for me to still be here for number three. But if I'm being honest...I should've called it good at the end of the first one. Oh my stupid-must-know-how-everything-ends brain.Sadly, Sweet Ride is actually my least favorite book in the series. Because while I said all the books happen at warp speed, this one does so in triple time. Alix goes through this crappy situation and instead of digesting it all she hops on a plane via a mystery person, plays hard to get with Jag for about five minutes, then blinks and puts her good girl aside for some wild sex with a guy she barely knew in high school. Oh and they fall madly in love in about a week.Sigh.Look. It takes a damn good story to get me to overlook insta-love. And even then, 9.5 times out of 10, I'm still kind of irritated with the situation. Had this book been longer I probably could have come close to forgiveness, but still I don't feel like it would've been solid enough for it, in my opinion.I'm not saying they're completely terrible. I mean, Alix and Jag had some really amazing chemistry. I just wish there had been more substance to their relationship besides just incredibly hot sex. Something to make me sit here and say "yes. I believe in the two of you!" That doesn't happen though.I'm really not sure if there's anything more positive to say from my reading experience. Alix was an okay character, but probably my series least favorite. While on the opposite side of the fence, I thought Jag was wonderful and would definitely be my favorite. So you can see I was pretty conflicted. I guess if you're looking for a really quick filler book in between something bigger and you don't mind people diving head first into love faster than you can say yeehaw, you'll probably have fun reading these books. I'm, unfortunately, all insta-loved out for the year. Thanks to Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

When she arrives she comes face to face with a familiar person from her past.Private Investigator Curtis “Jag” Jagger not only remembers Alix as the “it” girl in high school but also, the girl he couldn’t get out of his mind. I definitely liked the idea that three friends got the bone headed idea to each invite the woman they think could be “the one” for them to their ranch to basically spend time together.Sadly I didn’t enjoy Sweet Ride as much as I did the previous novellas in the series. Jag and Alix weren’t the problem, I liked their chemistry and their story but the whole thing was an example of why I normally don’t like novellas. It was way too rushed and I felt that the plot started to build up certain conflicts as if it was a full length book, only to resolve them super quick and without an ounce of believability. For a story of this length the conflict should have been something less complicated than Alix’s family. There was plenty of heat here though and some humor but I really didn’t have time to let any of the scenes sink in before it was off to the next one, and the next one and the next.Final Verdict: Not my favorite of the novellas and I was disappointed that the trilogy ended with such a rushed story.

Read the full review on Bookaholics Not-So-Anonymous.Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.Sweet Ride is the third and final novella in the Cathryn Fox-penned contemporary romance series entitled Playing for Keeps. Curtis Jagger and Alixis Harris knew one another in high school and always thought kindly of each other, even though they didn't exactly belong to the same social circles. He was the boy with an drunk and abusive man for a father while she was the respectable daughter from a political family. Alix has just ended her engagement to the man her mother handpicked for her and while she's initially hesitant about being on a ranch with Jag, he provides her with an enticing offer--to do whatever she pleases--in the one week she's there and it's an offer that she can't refuse. Being with Jag allows Alix to completely be herself and together they explore all the tempting and irresistible ways to satisfy each other's every need.As was the case with the two previous novellas in the series, feelings develop rather quickly between the main characters and there's a heck of a lot of hot scenes that they're involved in. This is a short read but I liked that I got a pretty complete story and that this one was able to distinguish itself from those that came before it, even though all three share the story arc of three best friends who invite the one woman they feel got away and with whom they'd love to have that first chance with. This was really Jag and Alix's love story, but it was nice to see Coop and Mari from Slow Ride and Mac and Jess from Wild Ride here as well, even if it was just a teeny, tiny bit of them. Overall, I enjoyed the Playing for Keeps series, which gets an average rating of 4.35 stars, and I feel that it ended on a high note with Sweet Ride, which gets 4.5 stars. ♥

Who doesn't wonder sometimes if that one crush could have been The One? But not many people actually reach out to find out and that's why I enjoyed all the books in this series, even though my favorite is the second book. Alix Harris has spent her life wrapped up in the bonds of duty, tied up by the expectations of her parents and every choice has been made with her father's political career in mind, even the choice of her fiancé. When she discovers her fiancé's betrayal, the invitation to a private ranch becomes a lifeline and Alix takes the opportunity to get away from everything for a while.Curtis Jagger had a crush on Alix in high school but she was out of his league in every sense of the word. Rich, gorgeous and popular while he was as geeky as can be, but now he has a chance to explore that connection further and encourage her to embrace her naughty side and reach out for her desires.I think that this book, while enjoyable, glossed over the issues that came up because of its length. There was more focus on the physical connection between Jag and Alix and the emotional parts barely skimmed the surface. I wanted more from the characters and the story itself, more depth to their connection, more time for them to delve into the chemistry between them. However, if you're in the mood for a quick, steamy read, then SWEET RIDE is just the book you need.Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. The final installment in Fox's Playing For Keeps series is wickedly sexy and jam-packed with promises of fulfilling dark fantasies. Coop & Mac have each claimed their one that got away. Now it's Jag's turn. Can the boy from the wrong side of the tracks claim the high society, high school queen? He couldn't back then, but what about now? Jag is not the nerd he was in high school. He's a sinfully sexy private investigator. And it seems that he did some private investigating of his own before inviting Alex down to the ranch for a week of no holds barred live out your fantasy sex! It seems he has perfect timing as Alex has just learned that her fiance has a very pregnant mistress that he's been keeping on the side. In spite of having always done what was expected of her, Alex decides to take a chance. And when Jag decides to call her bluff, they dive into a week of fulfilling her darkest sexual fantasies. But all good things must come to an end, right? When the week's over, Alex must choose whether to return to her cheating ex-fiance & high society life or live out her fantasies many times over married to Jag.Sweet Ride is a wickedly erotic read that will have you seeking a cold shower - or a hot cowboy! While I enjoyed Jag & Alex's story, I would have liked to see more personal growth and relationship development between them, outside the sex. I think the lack thereof has more to do with the short length of the novella than anything else. It may also have to do with the fact that I lost my heart to Coop in book 1! As always, Cathryn Fox delivers another smokin' hot cowboy story . . .one I'd like to ride off into the sunset! A Must Read!*Many thanks to Entangled: Brazen Publishing for this ARC via Netgally.Reviewed at: Cross My Heart Writings & Reviews

This is the 3rd and final book in the Playing for Keeps series. Although I REALLY think we need Blake's story, but that's a topic for another day!Of all 3 books, this one is my favorite. I love Jag and Alix together. They're both troubled souls for very differing reasons but I think that's what makes them being together so "right." Since Jag is a PI, he was able to determine what was going on in Alix's life before he extended the invitation to the Ranch for the week with Jess and Julia. Alix of course doesn't know this and when she steps off the plane she's really not sure she wants to stay. She's just found out her fiancé is cheating on her which causes her to re-evaluate what she really wants out of life.Jag on the other hand KNOWS he wants Alix and not just for this week long visit. What Alix also doesn't know is that Jag is aware of the photographs that Alix enjoys taking which are not really the everyday scenic pictures if you know what I mean. And trust me he uses that knowledge to his advantage!! And let's not bypass the oh so sizzling and steamy sex these two have! Cathryn outdid herself with these two. I think my glasses fogged up while reading those parts of this book.As the book progresses and Alix and Jag grow closer and closer, Alix wants nothing more than to stay with Jag at the Ranch full time. She has discovered a true peace of mind that she's not really ever had as her life has been dictated by per parents and what they deemed was appropriate for their daughter given her father's political career. There's also the issue that Alix feels Jag would one day come to resent her about which drives her to pack to leave when their week is over. Is Jag able to convince Alix to stay and have the life together they both deserve? The only way to find that out is to pick this book up!

Curtis Jagger always thought that there was more to Alix Harris than she allowed others to see and now that he has her on his ranch he is determined to everything about her. Alix's life is feeling somewhat out of her control and spending a week on a dude ranch sounds like the perfect escape from her life. A good girl that always does what she's supposed to, she finds that pleasing Curtis allows her to break from the chains that surround her life. But the question remains--is a week-long fling worth abandoning her life over? I liked the premise behind these stories and looked forward to reading how these men when out of their way to pursue the women they never forgot. I was especially curious to see how the author would bring the story forth after taking into account the length of the stories. In my experience, novellas tend to feel incomplete when they revolve around a brand-new couple. Unfortunately for me, this was the case with this series. Especially with Sweet Ride.Although I enjoyed the sexual aspects of this story, I was not convinced that there was more to Curtis and Alix's relationship that the exploration of their intense physical attraction. I wanted to know more about these characters and what drove them but ultimately, I was left wanting. And although the other stories lack 'something' too, at least I felt like the author redeemed herself in other ways. Sadly, that was not the case with this story. Having said that, I still think that Slow Ride, Wild Ride and Sweet Ride were a worthwhile reads. Each story was steamy and sexy with intriguing characters and an interesting concept that the author made sure to explore fully. All in all, a nice set of sexy little reads. Perfect for a quick escape from reality in the middle of a hectic day.

Once again, another great read by Cathryn Fox. I have absolutely loved this series and highly recommend it to anyone that loves great cowboy novellas. These have all been a second chance romance type read but the way that Cathryn Fox presents these stories is very unique and you will be so glad that you read them!Jag is a private investigator by day but he works on his ranch that he co-owns with a couple of friends on the weekends. He is definitely a swoon worthy cowboy. Jag has always had a thing for Alix, but she was always the one he could never get in school. He admired her from far away, but she was one of those girls that her parents had everything planned out for her and she was expected to follow along with what they wanted for her. Alix's parents have picked out what they think is a suitable husband for her and they are about to get married when Alix finds out that he is cheating on her. Alix needs a break from everything and when she gets the invitations from Jag to come to his ranch for a week, she jumps at the offer. Jag treats Alix with respect and pretty much like a princess on his ranch. He does everything in his power to make her realize what else is out there for her. When things heat up for Jag and Alix, there is no turning back for the two of them. When Alix's fiance shows up and tries to take her back home, she has to make a decision as to whether to stay at the ranch or go back with him. What is Alix going to do? Break the heart of Jag once again or turn from what her parents have planned for her and go after what her heart really wants? You need to read this sweet and steamy novella to find out! Such a great read and I have enjoyed all of these novellas in this series. I can't wait to see what Cathryn Fox has in store for us as readers!!

The last of these one that got away/high school crush novellas ends the series with a bang as Good Girl Alix unleashes her voyeuristic side with Private Investigator Jag. Despite Alix arriving on the ranch in a state of emotional turmoil – thanks to discovering her fiancé’s very pregnant mistress – there’s no hanging about in this book. Alix might talk about how she’s not going to jump into bed with Jag, but she does, of course, right on the first night – and doesn’t bother getting out again.Actually, Alix does that a lot. Whether it’s thinking about not sleeping with Jag, or not falling for him, no sooner are these words read then she’s doing the complete opposite, which is kind of annoying. Then again, this book really isn’t about the plot. Which is good, because out of the three novellas this is the one that feels thinnest. Neither Alix nor Jag are explored too deeply, and even the things we know about them (Alix’s political connections, Jag’s PI business) have absolutely no bearing on their actions or decisions.Basically this is a hot, quick read where two people have lots of sex and don’t think too deeply about it. It is sexy, but personally I need a bit more from the characters or the plot to make it memorable. If you’re looking for something deeper, this isn’t it, but if you want something quick and dirty, then this whole series is worth a try. I’d recommend Slow Ride, though, since not only is it the first but it’s also the one I liked most.(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)

It’s time for the third Playing for Keeps novella Cathryn Fox once again packs a lot into a little and does it with ease. This is one hot read that you will devour in one sitting.Sweet Ride rounds out the stories of the three cowboys who wanted another chance with the one that got away. This outing we get Jag and Alix and while its sweet like the title says is also hot.For private investigator Jag, tracking down the one that got away was easy. The hard part is keeping his hands off her long enough to convince her that he’s not he boy from the wrong side of the tracks anymore and that he can see the real her.Dutiful political daughter Alix just found her fiancé with his pregnant lover. That was enough to send her running when a mysterious invitation arrived. What she wasn’t counting on was Jag and the fact that he brings out the real Alix. The sensual Alix. When the sparks start to fly and Jag gives Alix the chance to be free, it doesn’t take long before the clothes are shed and the feelings start get real. Jag shows her that there is more to herself than she lets others see. Before long they start fall but when reality shows up and tries to keep them apart will it succeed or can these two find a way to have reality and each other?I have really enjoyed this trilogy and would love to see it expanded into a spinoff maybe. Anything to keep these fantastic quick reads coming.I received a copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review.

As the title says this novella was sweet - and definitely with a good amount of titillation. "Sweet Ride" is more risqué than "Slow Ride" but not nearly as provocative and steamy as "Wild Ride". For some reason this installment of the Playing For Keeps series seemed rushed and the heroine's character growth was almost like a band-aid being ripped off. Her back story was deep and complex but I guess it seems that their week at the ranch went by a lot quicker than the other couples in the series.Jag is an patient, indulgent and sexy hero. Cathryn Fox allows her characters to playfully unfold and show their vulnerabilities and the acceptance of their sexuality. "Sweet Ride" feels as though it lacks the complex emotional back story between the couple in the first installment of the Playing For Keeps series. It also does not have the untamed sexuality of the second novella in the series. In straddling the line it kind of loses a little of its oomph. Don't get me wrong this is a fine novella for the series but I would have ended it with "Wild Ride" - and left it with a BANG! Although the novella has a fabulous DO NOT MISS happy ending it left me wishing for a little more.To read the entire review please visit: http://bit.ly/1O0eLNoThis novella was provided by the Publisher for a honest review.

Private Investigator Jag (Curtis Jagger) has a reputation for catching cheaters. And on the weekends, he has a reputation for being a sexy-as-sin cowboy. He, along with his best friends, Coop (Chase Cooper) and Mac (Tyler Mackenzie) have invited their long lost loves up to their dude ranch in Canada for a week long vacation; to indulge their deepest (dirtiest) fantasies and see if any of that original spark is left. The premise of each of the three books is similar. I liked that. I knew what I was getting into and liked that the secondary characters were already familiar to me. That being said, Jag was probably my least favorite of the three. His story felt a little too short and a little rushed to me. Dont get me wrong, I really liked the book but I liked the other two better. In my mind, Jag should have started the series, then Coop (book 1) and ending with Mac (book 2). Because HOLY SMOKES, Mac is hot. I love the fact that Jag was so sweet and patient with Alix. And I loved that fact that Alix was quick to overcome the damage that her very recent relationship had done to her. I just wish there was a little more depth to this book. It was a definite 4 star read and I look forward to more from Cathryn Fox. My fingers are crossed for more sexy cowboys! She does those so well ;)

I received an eARC of the book via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Actual Rating 2.5 Stars This is the third book in a series, and I felt lost at the start! I loved the idea that I gleaned from the blurb, but I have to say, I was lost! And while it took me a while to get into the swing of things, I still loved reading about Jag and Alix – the fact that they could have been and yet lost their chance is a heart warming story – but sadly, it is too short and instant to make an impact! I did love the writing style of this author – and I do wish she had given this book a lot more attention than it got! It could have been an explosive book! Understanding Jag’s attitude, made it a little bit easier to like him in such a short time, yes, but falling in love so soon and so fast even with the backdrop of their history – which I must say was explained quite nicely – still was a hard pill to swallow. Ms. Cathryn is a really good writer, but she tends to rush into things – at least she did in this one – and the promise of an explosive plotline just fell absolutely flat! In this third installment of the PLAYING FOR KEEPS series, the nerdy kid grows up to be the smoking hot leading man, and I totally adored Jag. He's smart as can be, and has this super sweet, earnest demeanor that makes him so damned endearing. And if the first book in the series was all about pure romance, and the second about sex, the theme for this book could be sheer emotion. I love, love, love that Alix comes to the ranch somewhat broken and is given the time and space to heal her heart, all while having the best time in the bedroom. Jag gives Alix everything she needs to face her turbulent life and Alix rises to the occasion. These two characters are so stinking cute together! This novella is super short, and if I had one reservation, it would be that I think it could have benefitted from a scene or two more between Alix and Jag to really have them getting to know each other again after all these years. The ending felt a bit rushed to me, but that might just be because I loved them together so much throughout. So- not really a criticism, just a wish that this novella was just twenty pages longer!

4.5 / 5 starsAlix and Jagger were definitely a good choice to round out this series of the best friends who wanted a second, real chance with the girls from high school they never got over. I loved cynical Alix -- she had every right to be, afterall. A mysterious invitation, a man she hadn't seen since school, and a weeklong stay at a ranch with jut him and four others from high school? I'd be a bit cynical too. Alix was every bit the political daughter -- she 'ran for office' in school, and even as an adult, she's learned to not trust everything she sees, such as life in politics. And even though she had fond memories of a sweet Jagger, she didn't quite trust him. She's mouthy and smart, two things that certainly don't put off Jagger.Jagger wasn't always the confident cowboy he is now -- and his insecurities seep through a number of times in this story. However, the two of them learning to let go of insecurities and believe in what was in front of them, made this my favorite of the three....that and the epilogue. I really loved this one's epilogue.

Private investigator Curtis Jagger has always had a thing for Alix and it’s time for him to show her what she’s missing and unlock her wildest fantasies in this delightful contemporary romance.Determined to please herself, Alix accepts the mysterious invitation to Jag’s ranch and the reader can’t help but get caught up in her new found freedom as she takes the reins and rides out every wicked desire. The chemistry between Jag and Alix sizzles from every page and the sex scenes are hot and steamy but the relationship has a major drawback, Alix has to return to her life in one week or she’ll lose everything. The characters are strong, captivating and easily related to while the plot is well written, fast paced and flows smoothly with lots suspense and passion with the intriguing story drawing readers in and refusing to let go.The story is a quick and delightful read that gives me that “feel good” feeling and I love the setting for this series with its intriguing ‘authentic cowboy’ experience vibe.

2 stars. This review also appears on Pretty Sassy Cool.I've read something else by Cathryn Fox before (Hold Me Down Hard) and didn't like it, but I decided to give this quick novella a try. No doubt about it, this story is hot. The past relationship (or really acquaintance) that Jag and Alix share only adds a bit to the story. I didn't really care about them or if everything/anything worked out with them. The idea for this story--this series, really--is very interesting and I'm glad I read this book. No surprises here, I didn't like Alix, but Jag was super hot and their sexy times were steamy. If you want a fast, steamy read with little else in the departments of character or story development, Sweet Ride might just be exactly what you're looking for.

Quick, hot, romance story about a rancher, Jag, who offers a girl he fell in love with back in high school to spend a week on their ranch to see if they could rekindle their friendship and possibly move on to a more serious relationship. Although the premises book is interesting, the development of the characters needs to have more character development to truly get to believe what they are going through, seemed a bit rushed in parts.. Overall it was a pretty good book. One thing is for sure, this author knows how to write about good old fashioned hot, loving, respecting Cowboys that will melt your heart. I love how they go after the women they want, protect and stand up for them no matter what, and know how to make their women happy in bed. Hot stuff!I was given this ARC book in exchange for an honest review.
