Exceptional writing. Beautiful prose. The book tricked me by starting of light and comical but quickly became political, treacherous and dark. The male protagonists was smart and likeable, even witty. This book is a recommendable hidden gem.

To Be King, by Lara Blunte, is a romantic yet exciting must read! It is set in the days of castles and Kings. When you add a forced marriage that was made in order to make an alliance, and then add the plotting that always goes along with a King and his court, you will find yourself really wanting to find out what happens next! I first read this book on Wattpad and happily, this book had my attention from the very beginning and held it spell-bound throughout the entire book. She masterfully write about the struggles and triumphs of the main characters. I highly recommend it and anything else that Lara Blunte writes, as all her stories are exciting!!

An exceptionally written mix of romance and the politics of human emotion

“It was a dark time”, it’s how it starts, this chivalric romance set in the Middle Ages. War, death and hunger set the initial tone of a story that in the end results in a beautiful tale about hard times and difficult measures, about friendship, and foremost about love. Love between two people who weren’t supposed to love each other. Or maybe they were.Telling you more, would ruin it.Lara Blunte is an absolutely brilliant writer. Her background as historian shows in each historically plausible detail: the initial premise, the setting, character’s garments or battle descriptions. All that she masters so proficiently. But there’s a very clear distinction between historians and writers, though. Think of an earthquake. Historians are like a seismograph, they would give you clear, objective information about such natural phenomenon. Writers, on the other hand, behave like witnesses of it, they don’t just measure the event, they’re able to take you there, they allow you to see it, to feel it as if you were immersed in it. You should feel each movement, each sensation of fear and panic, each emotion that courses through people’s veins. And Lara sure does that. So perfectly, you want to read it all in one sitting. But then, of course, comes the great dilemma: you don’t really want it to end, because you know already you’ll miss your hero…Only exceptional writers and great stories make you feel like that.

I didn't give this book much chance. I actually started it thinking I would skim and not read it, but by the time we meet the H I was hooked. I really liked her and the Prince turned out to be one of my favorite characters in this book. This authors way of writing really appealed to me and I bought a couple other of her books to try. This book is a little steamier then I normally read. One sex scene was described with one too many details. I love when the author leaves it up to your imagination, like she does for other scenes. The way all of the characters came together to fight for there kingdom and for peace was so well done. There was a depth of feeling that was conveyed so well.

I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review. This is a really good book and love story. You will fall in love with how they become to fall for one another before your eyes when they both started out with such stubbornness to begin with. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it as I am sure you will too. Strong characters and great story line are used. I have fallen in love with Lara's work and have read her other books "The Last Earl and True Born". I have only to read "This Hell of Mine" and can't wait.

This book is absolutely amazing, the characters are all well defined and stay true to their hearts and nature. Tameas is playful but a strong man awaiting his time to prove his worth, Isobel a woman that knows what she wants and how she wants it. Difficult in their own ways but both finding a understanding and love in a complicated world.....Its an adventure i was pleased to read about...well done!

I love fairy tales. This story tells of a royal marriage of duty. Both hero and heroine bear their own prejudices against the other. And both become greater than I thought they could be. It takes place in an unknown kingdom, and ends unexpectedly. I would have wished a happier ending for many, but the story of a king who truly fought to make a better world for all may indeed be a fairy tale.

I was at first thinking this one was a bit off, as it seems like a less deep story, but I was wrong. There may be a lot of humor around the prince, but the book gets serious, especially at the end. I think the letters got a bit blurry, there…Beautiful once again. L Blunte knows how to bring out emotion!

Short and sweetGood story. Good writing. Characters are well constructed and developed. The plot is not a new one, but written very well. Couldn't help but like the Prince and the changes he went through after his father's death. It's a nice, short historical romance novel to read on a rainy day.

Different from what I expected Different from beginning to end. I really enjoyed the way this book was written. There were several unanticipated twists as well as the usual predictable outcomes.
