once upon a promise Reviews
I lived for the angst in the beginning
Wellington wins. Caleb wins.☺ A touching tale of lobe hidden then found. Emma and Caleb suffered aloneness as the Napoleonic Wat ensues. Caleb returns home upon request to await the formal announcement of barony. He has not seen his wife, Emma, in three years. This tale takes us through the throws reconciliation . It's a great story and quick read. Very enjoyable.
Loved this bookThe characters in this book are truly enjoyable. I love the humor and the way Nicola told the story which had me laughing out loud. I am hoping there is a sequel.
"Three,” she said in a gratifyingly dazed voice. He grinned. “I did promise you ten, Mrs. Montclair."Hot scene was really hot! The story lacked something... but I don't know what.3 solid stars
Six weeks to win back his wifeMajor Caleb Montclair has been away fighting Napoleon three years without a single visit home. Feeling abandoned by her husband and left in the care of a mother-in-law who openly disapproves of her, his wife craves a separation and the chance to begin anew in the countryside away from the thinly veiled scorn of the ton for one who wasn't born within their ranks. Caleb knew their marriage wasn't perfect and that he would have a lot to answer for when he finally did return home upon his enforced retirement, but hearing that his wife wanted to leave him was like a sucker punch. He hastily argues her a bargain: if she gives him six weeks to try to win her back, he'll let her go if she still wants to at the end of that time. But will six weeks be long enough? What kept him away so long in the first place?Caleb and Emma's story is interesting, but I thought the novella was perhaps not the best vehicle for telling it. The transformation the couple goes through is jarring and abrupt, whereas in a longer format, changes could occur more gradually and convincingly. Overall, however, it is an entertaining read.
Once Upon A Promise by Nicola Davidson is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited time for reading. This book is well written, making it a nice smooth read. The characters are amazing and my favorite part of the book. Caleb and Emma's story is packed with drama, humor and spice. I loved this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Nicola Davidson in the future. Once Upon A Promise is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I received a copy of this book for review purposes.
