This is a story of passion from body to soul, overcoming optical, pushing the lines, knowing what you want, going after it, and not letting anyone stand in your way, danger, along with finding that one person who accepts you as you are. I love how clean, sweet it is but still has passion, power and really shows how hard it was for women back in this time. The author has not trouble showing you all this an more in this highly entertaining read that will keep you on the edge as you twist your way through the dangers of one women who wants more from life. Monica is so full of life with so many people who want to keep her in a box making her live a life that is as old as time. Monica wants to spread her wings, grow and become an independent woman who can take care of herself. A husband and children are not on her horizon, mostly I think because she doesn’t believe she can find a man that will not try to change as well as try to control her making her a housekeeper and baby maker. She is very good as solving mysteries her dream is to become a detective, a lawwomen or a ranger. One man she grows up with sees her as a challenge and wants to bend her to his ways. He wants to marry her and her family is behind him. As you can imagine the word NO didn’t go over to well. Now she most make her escape before she is given no choice.Going to visit a long time friend in Texas she plans to start over making her own way. It isn’t as easy as it seems because even with the men of Texas being a little more leant they still think women should not be in dangerous situations. She believes if she can prove herself she can make a living and just maybe be a Texas Ranger some day. What she finds is it isn’t as easy as she thought and danger is almost on her doorstep. This is one woman that just can’t seem to stay out of trouble as she takes on the Texas Rangers and the people of the town of GalvestonAt first you really do not know what to think of Gabriel he seems like a hard unkind man until you hear his story than his action fall into place. I really liked this handsome Texas Ranger who puts his self out there bring justice to this town where crime seems to be rising daily. He really tries to keep everyone safe but it seems Monica is determined to put herself in as much danger as she can. He and Monica are drawn to each other the attraction is strong but neither want anything to do with the other. Once come across as not to smart when she makes choice that could get her killed and the other comes across as hateful but really wants her to wise up and stop putting herself in danger. What I really loved about the story is the fast pace that keeps you hopping from one mystery solve to another taking its place. There is never a dull moment in this thrilling exciting read. I really liked how Monica’s mind works, how she works out and solves the mystery, how the town’s people look at her. I simple just love this plot and the characters in it. The supporting characters add so much to this story line they really pull you in. The twists and turns keep you on your toes making you hold your breath keeping your heart beating double time. This is really an action pack read from start to finish. It’s a very well thought out story that keeps the reader invested not only in the characters but the story it’s self. I just had to finish this story last night and was up very late. I just could not put it down. There is nothing I didn’t love about this story. The entire Grandma’s Wedding Quilt series has been a very pleasant surprise from very talented authors who really know how to give a highly entertaining read that really hooks the reader. After reading one you won’t be able to wait to read the next one in line. I love how well blended the whole series is and how Grandma and her quilts come to play in each story. I really am looking forward to the rest in this series. I loved this story so much I have pick it to be one of my favorite reads for this year.

FOR A SKILLED DETECTIVE, WHEN IT COMES TO LOVE, YOU’RE QUITE DENSEFor Monica Benton, she has dreams, and it isn’t just getting married, taking care of a house and having babies. No, Monica is known for her ability to work out problems, solve mysteries, and she is determined to continue on that path. The problem comes in being a woman in 1875, and having no rights. Now Jeb Byrd has come to her family home to tell her she is marrying him, and her father is agreeing. They both decide that marriage to a strong man will help tame her wild ways. When her father gives her an ultimatum of marriage or to leave his home, she manages to talk her parents into allowing her to go to Galveston, Texas to visit her friend, Ellen.Monica does have a brilliant mind for solving puzzles, but Galveston is not a safe town. It has more than it’s fair share of crime, and Ellen and her husband, Jacob, has warned her of those dangers. Jacob is a Texas Ranger under Gabriel Randall; both men try to explain to Monica that it just isn’t safe for her to wandering the streets or starting her own business. She may have proved herself, but she has made enemies in the process, and now she is in danger. An out-of-town trip to visit Grandma Mary will offer sage advice. “Relationships aren’t always easy, but I can tell you from experience that when you find the right one, they are absolutely worth it.” Grandma Mary is supportive of Monica but also believes her granddaughter is falling in love with Gabriel. Finding someone who can accept you for yourself is a blessing. Sometimes it isn’t easy watching a person you care about, much less, love to do something that you feel isn’t a safe job for a woman. It takes a special man to acknowledge that you do have an uncanny ability to analyze a situation and come to a logical concussion. Can Gabriel and Monica find that happy ground? Running away from the fate awaiting her back home leads her to the man of her dreams and a chance at a happily ever after ending.

Monica Benton’s father is insisting that she marry a man who wants to tame her and control her. To buy time, she convinces her father to let her travel to Galveston, Texas and visit a friend before she marries. What she doesn’t tell her father is that she has no plans to ever return. A strong believer in women’s rights, Monica is determined to provide for herself as an amateur detective. When she meets Texas Ranger Gabriel Randall, she wants to prove that she is capable and can even help with his cases. But Galveston holds dangers she’s never encountered before, including a danger to her heart.Monica is quite the woman! She is intelligent, independent and has a stubborn streak. She is also caring and truly wants to help people. Gabriel is a strong, tough, confidant man. I liked seeing his soft side come out with Monica. His protective side really came out with her, too, which she didn’t necessarily appreciate. They are definitely good for each other.During the story, Monica visits her grandma. I loved the way Grandma Mary spoke about marriage! She helped Monica look at marriage in a new way and explore the possibility of being a wife and mother while remaining a strong, independent woman. This book has mystery, danger and romance, all brought together to provide a great story. It’s a quick read and an ideal way to spend an afternoon.I received a complimentary copy of the book. I have expressed my honest opinion.

Monica didn't want to get married and lose her identity. She would rather run away from home and support herself by solving mysteries for people. However her plans to be a detective to make a living run into a spot of trouble when the local bad guy turns his attention towards her for foiling a horse robbery. Thankfully the local head ranger is right there to protect her, even if she thinks she can look after herself. Gabriel is not going to let her have the life that Monica envisioned for herself. He's going to give her something better!

I received an advance copy of this book from the author.Monica is amazing, spirited, stubborn, and the most independent woman! But she's just the right woman for the Texas Ranger! Can he accept her as she is or will he try to mold her and make her conform to the standards of generations of woman before her? Her meddling detective skills only seem to bring her more trouble! Will the brute like Ranger save her or leave her to her own devices? I hope you enjoy this mystery as much as I did!!

Wow! I was sad when the story came to an end! What a breathtaking story about a woman who is so determined to have her freedoms and not be under the title of "wife" or "Mother". Monica is determined to live her life as a single woman making a living as a detective that she travels far away from home. She thinks that she can build a life for herself in the City of Galveston. She meets her match when it comes to the Texas Rangers. Women's Suffrage is something that has not made it to Galveston. This book took so many twists that it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time - the author writes her characters well so that you can see them while you are reading along. I am loving the books so far in the Grandma's Quilts series.

The ability to chooseIn Monica's story, she ran into a challenge faced by many women in earlier times. She had talents and interests that did not conform to the accepted role of women. Her father grew so impatient with her he attempted to force her into a marriage with a man who felt it was his right and obligation to force her to submit by whatever means he felt inclined. Monica left for a visit--one she intended to be permanent--and found some measure of success, but continuing opposition from those who refused to take her seriously. I enjoyed how the author set up the situations, and how she described Monica's responses. The story had plenty of action.

MonicaThis book was nice to read. Men should listen more often to women. Their are some pretty smart women around. My only question is how is Monica related to the first three characters. I must have missed that.
