I picked up one of the Nocturne books from Harlequin (the paranormal romance) and got BLOOD SON by Erica Orloff. Its my first time reading her and too the Nocturne line. I do have a few that came out but haven't had the chance to read yet. This is a paranormal romance with a Dhampir (he's half vamp and half human) which is the first I'm reading of a Dhampir. In this, the vampires are bad ones (just like some romance books has the good vampires and the bad vampires). So its a very unique story! Really feel so much for both the Hero and Heroine in this one (Elizabeth and Josef). Really recommend this one if you like them a darker. I don't usually read those that are darker but I got so pulled into this one! I'm still awed with scenes I'm remembering and know they are going to stay with me a long time! Its very captivating with all the characters too (David the brother, the inn keepers). This author Erica Orloff really has a voice in her writing that just gets your body to anticipate more of the story that its a total adventure from start to finish that I didn't want to get up for anything. I really can't wait to read more of hers. I hope too more are planned for her to write in the Nocturne line.

Okay - I'm beginning to wonder if my expectations are too high when it comes to Harlequin books. What grade level are they writing to? And I'm so not believing finding your soul mate and falling into bed with him (or her) on your second meeting. Especially when the first meeting was nothing but terrifying. Also - there were glaring editorial errors, and I never once completely lost myself in the story.

Elizabeth Martin is chasing her brother across the world. She finds herself in a Czech village with a Dhampir called Josef Darecky who is hunting a vampire family who are also hunting him. She's quite worried for her twin brother, and she can sense that he's in trouble. She first takes a dislike to Josef but later finds herself conflicted about him. It's pretty much a predictable fang-banger romance, the adventure part of the story was pretty well written.

When I picked this up I thought it was going to be a typical vampire romance but I was pleasantly surprised. While it did have romance, the hero was a Dhampir, half human half vampire, who helped the heroine rescue her brother from a true vampire. It's a little darker than your run of the mill vampire story, but that was part of its appeal - it's not like all the others.

The story and plot was good-BUT-she meets her soul mate on a quest to save her brother and on her second visit sleeps with him? They both have a "connection" almost immediately. Really? She was terrified when she first met him because he's a dhampire. Puh-leeze! Maybe because the book wasn't thick they had to get the sex scenes in it right away???

Very fast paced! I'm not a big fan of endings that give you the rest of the story. I like to make up my own, happily ever after scenarios. I would have like more of the bad guys in it, but all in all it was good.

HORRIBLE...no plot, no story, just horrible. Not worth reading.
